NRG Champs and Leaderboard FAQs

Welcome to NRG Champs NRG Champs is a two day invite only tournament with an incredibly unique structure designed to provide the highest level of competitive play. Champs will be streamed at twitch.tv/NRGSeries . Each game's Championship works a little differently, you can expect detailed tournament structure announcements before our last event on Nov 21-22. NRG Champs is hosted at the Nerd Rage Gaming store in Buffalo Grove, IL. 1361 W Dundee Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089 NRG Champs: Magic Dec 12-13. 24 players, $35,000, and a Pro Tour Invite NRG Champs: Riftbound Dec 19-20. 16 players, $15,000, and the FIRST ever NRG Champs Riftbound. -NRG Champs: Magic 2025 -2025 Champion Matt Sikkink Johnson A VIP Experience NRG Champs celebrates the best of the best of the NRG Series, preparing players for pro level play. One benefit of being a pro, is you are treated like one. Each player at NRG Champs receives the following perks: Custom NRG Champs Jacket In classic NRG black and orange with your name and the year. This jacket is a sign to others that you are the makings of a pro player. -Charlie Dusterberg sporting their new NRG Champs jacket Custom Shadowbox With three iconic cards from your top finishes at NRG this year, this item honors the success and glory that got you to this moment. Guaranteed Match on Coverage "Look mom, I'm on TV!" Prove to your friends and family that you are cool. Every player at NRG Champs is guaranteed at least one match on coverage, regardless of record. -Cliff Topher and Fanchen Yang at the Feature Match table Catered Lunch NRG provides a catered lunch to all players both days with a scheduled lunch break. A tournament with a scheduled lunch break??? Now that is a luxury experience. MVP Award Being an MVP comes with more than just glory. As MVP you will get special perks that will improve your chances of making top 8. Last year, the MVP Grayson Nemets got to choose a player to remove from their draft pod and one player to "dodge" in Swiss rounds. Not to mention your own special trophy! Each game will have it's own MVP Perks detailed in their tournament structure announcement. The MVP also gets free entry into all NRG Series Main Events in 2027. Now that's value. The player with the MOST leaderboard points receives the MVP award . Don’t forget to follow us on social media @NRGSeries for updates leading up to the event, and stay in the loop with #NRGCHAMP! How To Qualify There are two ways to qualify for NRG Champs: 1. Win an NRG Series Showdown. 2. At-large points leaders on the NRG Series Leaderboard. Number one is self explanatory. Winners are going to Champs. Number two is a race that is decided by single point differences. See the FAQ below for information about qualifications. NRG Series: Riftbound will award 8 at-large invitations NRG Series: Magic will award 7 at-large invitations. 2 from the Online only leaderboard, 2 from Paper only, and 3 from Combined. Leaderboard and Champs FAQs: My leaderboard points, name, bio, entry, etc. is incorrect, how can I fix it? Send an email to liam@nerdragegaming.com with your full name, email address associated with your leaderboard entry, and a description of the error. There is a duplicate entry of me on the leaderboard, what happened? Your leaderboard entry is tied to your email, it is likely that you used a different email when enrolling for an event. Send an email to liam@nerdragegaming.com with your full name and email address associated with your leaderboard entry and we will merge it for you. In what order are at large invitations awarded for the MTG leaderboards? At large invites are awarded in the following order: Online only, Paper Only, Combined. What if someone who is already qualified is an at large leader? When determining at-large invitations players with direct qualifications or who already received an at large invitation from a previous leaderboard are skipped. There is a point tie on the leaderboard, what is the tie breaker? A players highest NRG tournament finish is the tiebreaker. If both players involved in the tie have the same highest finish, their total number of NRG top 8 finishes is the next tiebreaker. Example: Liam Shannon and Mark Mason both have 42 leaderboard points. Mark's highest finish was 3rd place, Liam's was 4th place. Mark wins the tie and will occupy the higher slot on the leaderboard. If someone declines their spot in Champs who gets their invite? If a player declines a spot in Champs an additional at large qualification is added to the pool. For MTG, this will be awarded to the Combined leaderboard. When will at large qualifications be awarded? After NRG Elmhurst Nov 21-22, the NRG team will take about a week to upload those tournament results, double check the leaderboard for accuracy, and give players the opportunity to review their entries. NRG will make an announcement when leaderboard invitations have been awarded, at this point all points and positions on the leaderboard are final. Where is Champs held? Champs is held at the Nerd Rage Gaming store in Buffalo Grove Il. 1361 W Dundee Rd, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089 When is Champs? NRG Champs: Magic is Dec 12-13. NRG Champs: Riftbound is Dec 19-20 Can I qualify for both champs? Heck yeah you can! What pro tour does NRG Champs: Magic qualify for? Riftbound Showdown Series: Important Tournament and Sunday Registration Information

All honor to the Riftbound Players! Thanks to your overwhelming response to the Riftbound Showdown Series, here is the home of all the important tournament details so you have the best experience possible with the most complete understanding of what's to come. TL;DR More than 450 players are already registered for the Riftbound Showdown Series in Milwaukee. At 512 players , the tournament reaches Tier I , awarding the maximum number of Riftbound invitations: Regional Championship invites to the Top 4 and Regional Qualifier passes to the Top 16 . Saturday will feature 10 rounds of Swiss , beginning at 9:00 a.m. Central . We will play as much of the Top 8 as possible Saturday night. No additional Top 8 round will begin at 11:01 p.m. or later . Any remaining Top 8 rounds will begin at 8:00 a.m. Sunday . Sunday’s NRG Series: Riftbound $5K Showdown begins at 9:00 a.m. , awards NRG Series points and an NRG Championship invite, and caps at 256 players . If you want to play Sunday, register now . Do not wait until Saturday night. Players advancing to Sunday’s Top 8 rounds may receive up to two rounds of byes in the Sunday $5K. If they remain in the Saturday event when Round 3 of the Sunday event begins, they must accept a Round 3 loss or drop from the Sunday event. More Than 450 Players—and Tier I Is In Your Reach More than 450 players have already registered for the Riftbound Showdown Series , taking place Saturday, August 22, at the Baird Center in Milwaukee. Under the Riftbound Showdown Series structure, attendance determines the event’s tier and the number of invitations awarded: Attendance Event tier Regional Championship invites Regional Qualifier passes 128–255 Tier III Top 1 Top 4 256–511 Tier II Top 2 Top 8 512+ Tier I Top 4 Top 16 At 512 players , Milwaukee becomes the first Tier I Showdown Series event and awards the maximum number of Riftbound invitations. This means if you have friends who plan to attend but have not registered, encourage them to secure their seats now. Once enrollment closes, so do the tiers. Saturday Tournament Schedule The Riftbound Showdown Series will be run at Competitive Organized Play Level . Hall opens: 8:00 a.m. Central Tournament begins: 9:00 a.m. Central Format: Constructed Saturday Swiss rounds: 10 Top cut: Top 8, single elimination Decklists: Required and must be submitted through Carde.io before the tournament begins Please arrive with enough time to enter the hall, find your seat, and resolve any registration or decklist issues before the scheduled start. Round 1 player meeting will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. Top 8 and the 11:00 P.M. Cutoff After all 10 Swiss rounds have been completed, the tournament will cut to the Top 8. We will play the quarterfinals and as many additional Top 8 rounds as timing allows Saturday night. A Top 8 round will proceed time permitting, though no additional round will begin at 11:01 p.m. or later . Any Top 8 rounds not completed Saturday night will begin at 8:00 a.m. Sunday . Players still competing should be prepared to return before the hall’s general 8:00 a.m. opening so play can begin promptly. Register for Sunday’s $5K Now The NRG Series: Riftbound $5K Showdown begins Sunday, August 23, at 9:00 a.m. Central . The Sunday event features: A $5,000 prize pool NRG Series: Riftbound leaderboard points An invitation to the NRG Championship: Riftbound Competitive Organized Play Level Constructed play with a cut to Top 8 A hard cap of 256 players (Currently reduced to 12 based on expected byes from Saturday) With more than 450 players already registered for Saturday, Sunday does not have enough seats for everyone who may want to play. Even at the current attendance, nearly 200 Saturday players would be unable to enter if everyone attempted to register—and the gap will grow as Saturday registration approaches 512 players or beyond. If you want to play in Sunday’s $5K, register now. Do not wait until Saturday evening to decide. Last-minute registration will remain available only if seats remain. While the NRGEvents.gg staff may have a trick up their sleeve to give you even more competitive play options; this will be the ONLY event to offer NRG Points and an invite. Your ability to have more of those options published early is directly linked to how quickly this event caps. Sunday Byes for Saturday’s Top Players Registering for Sunday’s $5K will not prevent you from continuing in Saturday’s Top 8. Players whose remaining Top 8 matches carry into Sunday morning may receive up to two rounds of byes in the Sunday $5K. These byes allow advancing players to register for Sunday with confidence while continuing to compete for the Saturday title. The byes cover only the first two rounds of Sunday’s $5K. If a player remains in the Saturday event when Round 3 of the Sunday $5K begins, that player must either: Accept a Round 3 match loss and play starting in Round 4, or be dropped from the event. Registering now secures your opportunity to play Sunday. The bye policy protects players who advance deep into Saturday’s tournament, but it cannot create additional seats after the 256-player cap has been reached because having even 257+ players adds one or more additional rounds exceeding the time reserved at the venue. Welcome to you and the more than 450 other Riftbound players—and potentially the Showdown Series’ first Tier I field—to Milwaukee.

NRG Series: Magic and the Case of the Three Leaderboards.

Last year an amazing, though based on this player's skill not unexpected, thing happened—2025 MVP Grayson Nemets won two Modern Showdowns. According to the Champs invite system, this meant that a slot needed to be opened to another at-large point holder. Simple enough, the only question that needed research was: Does the invite go to the season in which Grayson won the second invite, or does it go to the overall, year-long board? It turns out, it goes to the year-long at large. However, in 2026 there are three different leaderboards: Paper only, MTGO only, and Combined. So, if someone of Grayson's caliber does it again, how does the invite pass down? The answer turns out to be rather elegant. Any pass-downs become an "at-large" invite from the board at which it happens. That is, if the same person wins an MTGO Sealed Showdown, an at-large MTGO only at-large will be added. If someone double queues from a paper Showdown, a Paper only at-large will be added. This does mean that there cannot be a "Combined" at-large position will not be added except in extreme circumstances. For a reminder, here's the breakdown of the invites. NRG Events presents the NRG Series x Riftbound and Riftbound Champs

The NRG Series has run for 10 years and brought the Magic. Now, you can be there at the beginning of NRG Series x Riftbound Throughout NRGEvents.gg weekends in 2026, Riftbound will be featured as a showdown series with cash prizes at stake and an eye toward the big stage: Riftbound Champs . What’s locked in so far: $5,000 Riftbound Showdown events each weekend. Sometimes there will be a double Showdown weekend with an invite on the line both Saturday and Sunday at NRGEvents.gg . Further be on the lookout for a $10,000 Trios Riftbound Showdown later in the season (details TBD). Every winning player or team from these showdowns earns a spot in the Riftbound Champs .
